Rogue Forum, Who We Are

We are independent and serve no special interest. We offer you a chance to publish on the web

anything that may be of lasting value to people in the Rogue River Valley, in Oregon.

Volume 2 .......... Issue 5 ........... May 16, 2001

Who We Are:

Purpose and scope: Rogue Forum is committed to and limited by the owner to publication for education and discovery.

Location: The web home-site is at the service provider, "ccountry.net," in Medford, Oregon.

The web-design is made in Shady cove. Final content and editorial decisions are all made at an office in the home at 12921 McNeal Creek Road in Trail, Oregon. The postal address is POB #8, Trail, OR 97541.0008.

Donations: We gladly accept donations to be used for the stated purposes provided there are no other strings. We are currently exploring a limited incorporation. We are not seeking nonprofit status simply because we don't like the nonprofit regulations and exposure. If you make a donation it is not tax-deductible. Donations should be sent in a plain envelope, and mailed to the postal address: POB 8, Trail, OR 97541.0008.

Advertising: We prefer that advertising be placed in a separate section though there are exceptions. All advertising is free now during the startup and will be very economical in the future. If you need anything please see our advertisers because their ads and the donations will be the only support for the site.

The site seems now to be getting more visitors -- 32 in the first 4 days of May, 2001

Ownership: The founder, web-designer, publisher, owner and editor is George Fuller. There are a few other well qualified volunteer writers and editors. However, the final editorial decisions, within the scope of stated commitments and purpose, and management decisions are George Fuller's.

Commitment and Purpose

Our commitment and our purpose are publishing for learning and discovery. We are a forum, focused now on the Rogue Valley but already available to the whole World Wide Web. Publishing these pages is for your learning; organized to show the main topics and summaries, with web addresses for further exploration. We offer all people of good will the opportunity to publish their findings, theories, and opinions. (See message to contributors below.) If you need anything, please see our advertisers because donations and advertising are the only support for the website.

Rogue Forum is first seeking values, treasures, in the Rogue Valley and asking very tough questions about who we are, how we relate and what is the good life here in the valley. Then we seek programs for improvements in the valley. We believe that participation in this process will be a valuable learning experience, for you and for ourselves. You will receive in proportion to what you contribute. Hopefully, what we accomplish will also benefit the rest of the valley.

A message to contributors:

We offer all people of good will the opportunity to publish their findings, theories, and opinions. Of course, we consider any copywritable material as belonging to the author and will not authorize re-publication without attribution. At the present, we are new, donations are small and we do not charge for advertising, so there is no money, at present, to pay for writing or editing. We are supporting the forum from our own pockets.

We are a new site and do not have many visitors or many authors. This has one important benefit: you will not be lost or rejected because there are too many writers. Rather, we are seeking talent and the willingness to improve and we will examine and support your work to the best of our ability.

Our writing standards or style requirements are simply that we want the best you can do. Develop your own style and, please, use good grammar and spell correctly. Over time we will provide standards comparable to those of the serious professional journals. However, the best guarantee of our interest is writing that is honest, generous and from the heart. To protect authors and the public, we will not publish "flaming" and will not knowingly publish criticism that has little basis in fact. However, we have a caution to you here. If you are writing about what you believe in your heart, that is still no guarantee that other writers or an editor will understand or even give you a fair hearing. We are imperfect but do imperfectly seek the honest way. Therefore, to you the response may be interesting, or a revelation, or it may be brutal or even may be wrong. The best I can say is I intend for us to be honest. Take any criticism or praise with a big grain of salt. I still believe that the best honest response is exactly what is called for. Further, we expect you to be tough enough to not take offense for any criticism of your material. Of course, that works both ways, I expect that no one else will take offense at what you say and we are all always learning.

As I have said elsewhere, we will not publish "flaming" and will not knowingly publish criticism that has little basis in fact.

As we have investigated our situation we have come to believe that a large number of our government people are out of control, mainly interested in their own careers: mainly responding to personal needs and to sources of campaign funds and to powerful national elite groups (bureaucrats mostly) who want to make decisions for all of us. We believe that local political leaders who merely sway to the political breezes are unfit to understand and effectively lead us into our best future.

As a consequence of the out of control government, most of us believe we must break away from bad directions and bad leadership. Consequently, we believe, we are alone and must find or create our own way. Incidentally, in this process we are still seeking better qualified local political leaders.

We value our freedoms as necessary to be able to find our own way. In finding our own way -- we must understand ourselves, we must ask our own tough questions and set our own goals.

What will the Rogue Forum goals be? You may be able to help us, we must:

Find the facts about the present situation,

Find means to increase present resources,

Find means to improve our local situation,

Find breakthroughs to far better educational methods and processes. We must either reform the existing state educational monopoly or we must break that monopoly. We must have quality, quality learning experiences at acceptable costs.

Find and establish reliable channels of communication,

Find means to organize, communicate and take steps individually and collectively,

Find, and support our own qualified leaders who have the necessary background, education, and character.

More and more specific questions will be brought forward as we progress.

In all the above, the Rogue Forum seeks to perform one role for one serious purpose: publishing for education and for discovery of facts and new creative solutions. Under this broad purpose we seek:

Reliable verifiable reporting of any event or circumstance of lasting interest to people in the Rogue Valley and relevant to our commitments and purposes.

Thorough and complete expositions on who we are, how we relate and what is the good life.

Serious questions, proposals and discussion with supporting verifiable facts that bear on resolutions of issues in the valley. We seek any relevant good idea but in particular we want practical through-going breakthrough proposals by experienced professionals.

Humorous or fictional writing that is interesting,
