Today’s newspapers and broadcast news are reporting more and

more violations of citizen rights by those who are sworn to

"protect and serve", the local police.

In Shady Cove, a growing number of people have complained

about selective police harassment and persecution, much of this in

whispers.

We would all rather support our police instead of fear them. In

that spirit, Les Weaver is offering two famous defenses for use by

the Shady police officers so that the sometimes questioned actions

can be "explained" and thereby remove the citizen’s confusion.

These excuses might then bring the harassment target back into

believing that the police action was in fact "ethical and legal"

under these excuses:

The Dillinger Defense; "But Golly Gee,

look at all the banks I didn’t rob". This can be used to point out

the many favored citizens that have not had their Constitutional

rights attacked.

The Nuremberg Defense; "I vas only

doink vat I vas tolt"! This excuse can be used to pass the buck,

possibly to where the buck both began and stops.
