 Just
South of Brophy Road, West of Paradise
Mobile Home Park this bit of history can
be found.

12 to 20 feet
off the ground, through the center of
this oak tree are the reminants of Shady
Coves first inhabitants following the
native people. Rough cut lumber is
imbedded in many years of tree growth.

Another view of
the same 200+ year old oak tree

Then 100 feet
away another oak tree with but one 2X4
set at it center about 15 feet up. This
could have only been accomplished by
Human activity at ground level and then
the river changed the terrain?

scene within
this wooded area

Another family
settled just up the hill and leaves this
rememberance :
reprint from
above: Mary
Louisa Black planted this shagbark
Hickory near her home in 1866 from nuts
she carried from Missouri on the Oregon
Trail in 1865. Of the nuts she planted
two grew into trees. This tree is the
lone survivor of snow, summer heat and
Rogue River flooding and is the only
shagbark Hickory in the area.

Note several
Pear and family orchard trees in the
background
